The answer is YES, you can become pregnant and here is why. Studies have found that women become pregnant when using the withdrawal method about 25% of the time (Incidentally this is known as coitus interruptus in case you want to cyber-search). Generally, the reason you could be impregnated concerns timing. It's quite difficult for a man to know precisely when the point of no return (when ejaculation is inevitable) occurs and he tends to wait too long inside you and as he pulls out, he squirts on your vulva, depositing his semen where it can easily work its way back into your vagina.
Also, as soon as he enters you, he will produce a pre-ejaculate, a fluid that lubricates and protects the sperm and this fluid may contain viable sperm from previous ejaculations and you know what the presence of sperm will do.
So to avoid pregnancy, withdrawal is a poor choice. Be sure to thank those friends who told you yes and to let the others know that coitus interruptus is not fail-safe.
